Moving art, antiques and fine furniture

For some pieces, a payout is not a remedy because they cannot be replaced. These moves are planned around protection first and speed second.

Protective wrapping goes on before anything leaves the room.

Before the move

  • Photograph each valuable piece and note existing marks.
  • Ask whether high-value items need declaring for transit cover, and up to what value.
  • Identify pieces that need crating: framed glass, sculptures, stone or marble tops.
  • Tell the removalist about veneers, lacquers and finishes that mark easily.

On the day

  • Soft wrapping first, then padded blankets, then a rigid layer for corners.
  • Artworks carried and loaded upright, never flat under other items.
  • Stone tops removed from bases and moved on edge.
  • Valuables placed last on the truck and unloaded first.
